Woods and Forests Media
Frog Week 2026

What Is Frog Week?
"Frog Week" is a yearly project created by AAron Capouellez. This six-month-long project aims to conserve Pennsylvania's wild frog and toad populations.
Frog Week is a collaborative project with contributions from PA Woods and Forests, Woods and Forests Media, Frogs and Toads Facebook Group, and Josh's Frogs.

Woods and Forests Media is expanding Frog Week beyond storytelling this year by integrating a large-scale iNaturalist Citizen Science Project in partnership with the PA Woods and Forests Conservation Committee.
While documenting frogs and toads through film, the team is also collecting real-time data to better understand amphibian populations across southwestern and central Pennsylvania.
Woods and Forests Media In Frog Week

This project spans an estimated 8,000 square miles, covering roughly 100 miles from Bedford County to Allegheny County. Within this region, a wide range of habitats, elevations, and watershed systems are being observed, allowing for a broader understanding of amphibian distribution and activity.

Data collection is led by the PA Woods and Forests Conservation Committee alongside trained and select community participants. Using the iNaturalist platform, contributors submit photo and audio observations as vouchers, helping document species presence across the region.
This approach allows for the development of a growing dataset focused on species richness and relative density, offering insight into where amphibians are found, how frequently they are encountered, and how their activity changes over time.

A Mission of Conservation and Stewardship

By pairing this effort with field documentation, Woods and Forests Media is capturing both the story and the science behind amphibian life in Pennsylvania. Frog Week 2026 not only highlights the behavior and movement of these species during the breeding season, but also contributes meaningful data that supports long-term conservation and monitoring efforts across the region.
